In response to the pandemic the Federal government has passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The basic provisions of this act and employer paid leave requirements can be found on the Department of Labor website. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/pandemic/ffcra-employer-paid-leave Please read the details in order to familiarize yourself as an employer with your responsibilities. No changes or updates are required in GrowPoint in order to comply with paying out this leave, but we do suggest that you create a new earnings type for payments made to employees under this act and that you create a new GL account in which to collect the expense as this is eligible for a full reimbursement from the Federal government when complying with the rules set forth.
Here is a quick review on how to set up a new leave earnings type.
Employers will need to determine on an employee by employee basis, who qualifies, what the rate of pay is that they are entitled to by virtue of the reason, and then manage whether that employee is passing the limits set for a per day & per period pay limit.
Next you should create a Leave Adjustment to assign to each employee who is taking leave, the number of hours they are allowed to receive, in most cases 80, but it could be less for part time or more if they are using reason #5 that goes up to 12 weeks at 2/3 pay rate.
The Leave Adjust utility is on your system in the Utilities folder. If it is not installed on your menu, ask your CSC to install it for you. Put in the total number of hours in the Adjustment field, then check the box to View Changes at the bottom. It will then save your record. If you do not give employees the hours in the adjustment screen, then you will need to check the box to “allow negative leave balance” on their employee earnings record for this leave, in order to pay out on this Leave type.
We will be monitoring the changes in payroll as they transpire over the next few weeks and months and are working to make sure you can respond to the changes with GrowPoint.
Stay safe!
